Create and Manage Project Categories for Resource Planning

This feature is in beta and available for customers using the Resource Planning tool.

Objective

To create project and manage project categories and subcategories in Resource Planning.

Background

Project categories and subcategories to help to better organise and manage your projects and resource. Some commonly used categories are:

  • Phases
  • Areas
  • Roles/Job Titles
  • Scope of Work
  • Floors

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions
  • Categories are specific to individual projects and must be created within each project.
  • If data syncs are enabled:
    • Categories in Resource Planning do not currently sync with Locations or Work Breakdown Structure in Procore.

Steps

Add Categories and Subcategories

  1. Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
  2. Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
  3. Next to the project name, click the vertical ellipsis icon-ellipsis-vertical.png and select Add Category.
  4. To add a subcategory, click the vertical ellipsis icon-ellipsis-vertical.png next to the category and select Add Subcategory.
    OR
    Right click the category bar and select New Subcategory.
  5. Enter the name of the subcategory.
  6. Click out of the text box to save.

Rename Categories and Subcategories

  1. Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
  2. Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
  3. Double click the category or subcategory name.
  4. Enter the new name. Then click anywhere on the screen to save.

Move Categories and Subcategories

  1. Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
  2. Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
  3. Click and hold the category or subcategory and move it to the desired location using a drag and drop operation.

Delete Categories and Subcategories

  1. Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
  2. Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
  3. Next to the category or subcategory, click the vertical ellipsis icon-ellipsis-vertical.png and select Delete this Category or Delete this Subcategory.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.

You can also manage categories from the Assignment Boards, Gantt or List via the legacy Project Details page.

  1. Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
  2. Click Assignments and select Assignment List, Boards or Gantt (Legacy).
  3. Click the name of your Project.
  4. Locate the 'Categories' section and take any of the following actions:
    • Add Categories and Subcategories
      1. Click New.
      2. Enter the Category Name.
      3. Optional: If creating a subcategory, follow these steps:
        1. Click Add Subcategory.
        2. Enter the Subcategory Name.
        3. Click Save.
      4. Click Save
    • Rename Categories
      1. Click Edit.
      2. Click the settings icon-gear-wfp.png icon.
      3. Enter the name.
      4. Click Save.
    • Delete Categories
      1. Click Edit.
      2. Click the delete icon-delete-wfp.png icon.
      3. Type Yes.
      4. Click Delete
