Configure the Number of Main Contract Variation Tiers

Objective

To configure the number of Main Contract Variation (MCV) tiers for your project's Main Contracts tool.

Background

When you initially set up the Main Contracts tool for a project, you can choose between a 1-tier, 2-tier-, or 3-tier configuration.The settings you choose determine how many steps are required for managing variations on the project. See What are the different variation tiers? This setting must always be configured before your project users start creating MCVs. It is also important to note that the system will NOT permit you to change this setting once your team starts creating variations.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permission:
    • 'Admin' on the project's Main Contracts tool.
  • Requirements:
    • This setting MUST be set configured before you create the first MCV on the project.
    • If you do NOT specify a setting, Procore's default setting is the 2-tier configuration.
  • Additional Information:
    • You are NOT permitted to change the variation configuration setting after the first MCV is created.
    • To learn about the supported variation tiers in Procore, see What are the different variation tiers?

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Main Contracts tool.
  2. Click Configure Settings .
  3. Select one of these options from the Number of Main Contract Variation Tiers drop-down menu:
    • 1-Tier (One-tier, a.k.a. 'single-tier')
Users only need to create a MCV when there is a change on a main contract. The MCV can then be sent to the appropriate project users for review and approval.
    • 2-Tier (Two-tier)
This is the tool's default setting. With two tiers, your project users will first create one or more Main Potential Variations (Main PCOs). The variations are then grouped into a MCV, which can then be sent to the appropriate project users for review and approval.
Note: If your company or project's billing process does NOT require you to group all of the approved variations for the month into a single, combined variation for final signature, the two-tier configuration is the recommended setting for the Main Contract tool.
    • 3-Tier (Three-tier)
With three tiers, your project users will first create one or more Main PCOs. The variations are then added individually or grouped into a Variation Request (VR), which can then be submitted to the appropriate project users for review and approval. After approval, the CORs can be grouped into a single MCV.
  4. Click Update.
