Why can't I turn off certain document 'Types' for the Document Management tool?

 LImited Release (Beta)
The Document Management tool is currently in a Limited Release (Beta). It is not yet available for Procore accounts in the United States. For more information, please reach out to your Procore point of contact.

Background

When managing 'Types' within the Default Fields settings for the Document Management tool, you'll see that the 'Drawing' and 'Specification' types can be renamed, but not turned off or removed. For more information, see Manage Configurable Fieldsets and Default Fields for the Document Management Tool

Answer

The 'Drawing' and 'Specification' Types are Procore default field options that cannot be turned off or deleted. These options are reserved for drawings and specifications and are necessary in order for Procore's machine learning to identify and populate information from these document types.

You can rename the 'Drawing' and 'Specification' description and code if needed, but they should still represent drawings and specifications. For example, you could rename the 'Drawing' Type field option to 'Drawing Rendition'. Other document types, such as models or photos, should have their own separate field options. To add or manage field options, see Manage Configurable Fieldsets and Default Fields for the Document Management Tool

 Note
Similarly, the system-provided 'Drawings' and 'Specifications' saved views in the Document Management tool can't be renamed or deleted. See Why can't I delete certain saved views in the Document Management tool? However, you can adjust these saved views by editing the filters. See Edit a Saved View in the Document Management Tool.
