Import Document Management Files into the Drawings Tool
Objective
To import Document Management files into the Drawings tool.
Background
The Drawings tool allows you to select Document Management files for viewing and marking up in the Drawings tool so you don’t have to bring that document through the full upload process all over again. This tutorial shows how to use the 'attach files' selector in the Drawings tool to find the document and quickly bring it into the Drawings tool with all the metadata attached.
Things to Consider
- Required User Permissions:
- 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions to the project's Document Management tool.
AND - 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions in the Drawings tool.
- 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions to the project's Document Management tool.
- Additional Information:
- Make sure that users are added to the necessary permission groups in the Document Management tool so that they can access the files that are imported.

Prerequisites
- The document must already be uploaded, completed and submitted in the Document Management tool.

Steps
- Navigate to the project's Drawings tool.
- Click Upload Drawings.
- Click Attach Files.
- Click Document Management.
- Select the box next to each file you want to import.
- Click Attach.
- Select or type a name for the imported document(s) in the Drawing Set field.
- Optional: Set authored or received dates for the drawings. More options available under 'Advanced Options'.
- Click Process.
Note: You may need to refresh your page to see the imported drawings. - If any required metadata is missing, a message appears with a list of what's missing and an Update button so you can complete the missing fields and save them by clicking Add Fields.
- When metadata is complete, the import shows as processing in the right-hand panel.
- When processing finishes, a data table appears with a link to the drawing set so you can click View to open the drawing set.
- To view a document, click Open.
- Publish the document(s).
