Configure the Number of Main Contract Variation Tiers

Objective

To configure the number of Main Contract Variation (MCV) tiers for your project's Main Contracts tool.

Background

When you initially set up the Main Contracts tool for a project, you can choose between a 1-tier, 2-tier- or 3-tier configuration. See What are the different variation tier settings in Project Financials? This setting determines how many steps are required when managing variations on a Procore project. You must configure this setting before your project users create MCVs on the project. This setting cannot be changed after a variation is created.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Main Contracts tool.
  • Additional Information:
    • This setting MUST be set configured before you create the first MCV on the project.
    • If you do NOT specify a setting, Procore's default setting is the 2-tier configuration.
    • You are NOT permitted to change the variation configuration setting after the first MCV is created.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Main Contracts tool.
  2. Click the Configure Settings icons-settings-gear.png icon.
  3. Select one of these options from the Number of Main Contract Variation Tiers drop-down menu:

    • 1-Tier (One-tier, a.k.a. 'single-tier')
Users only need to create a MCV when there is a change on a main contract. The MCV can then be sent to the appropriate project users for review and approval.
    • 2-Tier (Two-tier)
This is the default setting. With two tiers, your project users create one or more Main Potential Variations (Prime PVs). Main PVs are then grouped into a MCV and sent to the appropriate project team members for review and approval.
       Notes
      • A three (3) tier variation configuration is also available. To learn more, see What are the different variation tier settings in Project Financials?
      • If your company or project billing process does NOT require you to group all of the approved variations for the month into a single, combined variation for final signature, Procore recommends configuring the two-tier variation configuration setting on the Main Contracts tool.
  4. Click Update.
