Add a Comment to a Task

To add a comment on a task to request or clarify additional information.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions: 
    • 'Admin' permissions on the Tasks tool.
    • 'Standard' permissions on the Tasks tool AND is an Assignee or Creator of the task.
      • If you are the Creator, you can update the task to include any Status.
      • If you are the Assignee, you are permitted to update the status to 'Initiated', 'In Progress', or 'Ready for Review', but NOT to 'Closed' or 'Void.'
  • Additional Information:
    • You can also change the status of a task when editing it. See Change the Status of a Task.
    • Important! After you post a comment, it becomes a permanent part of the task's history. It cannot be deleted from the task at a later time.


  1. Navigate to the project's Tasks tool.
  2. Click View next to the task you want to add a comment to.
  3. Click Add a Comment under the Activity section.
  4. Optional: If you want to add a file attachment, click Attach File(s).
    • Choose from the following attachment options:
      1. My Computer. Click to upload a file from your computer.
      2. Photos. Click to attach a file from the project's Photos tool. See Photos (Project Level)
      3. Drawings. Click to attach a file from the project's Drawings tool. See Drawings (Project Level)
      4. Documents. Click to attach a file from the project's Documents tool. See Documents (Project Level).
    • Click Attach Files.
  5. Click Post Comment
